Goktilar
You either love it or hate it, but everyone watches the annual Eurovision Song Contest and knows pretty much what to expect. 1986 was no exception to these rules. Exuberant (and underaged?) Sandra Kim won with her performance of "J'Aime La Vie," a piece that loses much of its charm when detached from Kim's sparkly-eyed dance performance and au courant 80's-era wardrobe. Highlights include Daniela Simons' lush "Pas Pour Moi" (the leader until Kim stole the show), the vaudevillian entry from Sweden, "E' De' Det Här Du Kallar Kärlek," and some tuneful hooks from Ingrid Peters' "Über Die Brücke Geh'n," Kari's Finnish ballad, "Never The End," Sherisse Laurence's decent if not perfunctory piece "L'Amour De Ma Vie," and the coy, borderline copyright infringement entry by Luv Bug, "You Can Count On Me." Notable misses are Cocktail Chic's "Européenes," Ryder's "Runner In The Night," Cadillac's "Valentino," and Frizzle Sizzle's "Alles Heeft Ritme," all of which come across as early outtakes, melodic ideas not yet fully scrubbed of tawdry musical or thematic cliches. The rest is the usual fare, forgotten by midsummer, and perhaps disavowed by the performers later in their careers.
