I first heard Major Tom on a website called, I think 365days.com... It was a website devoted to all things weird, whacky and plain out there musically!... Sadly the website is no longer but with forward thinking (not always my strong point!) I downloaded a lot of the music and saved it to disc.. This was around 2004..One of the tracks I saved was this Major Tom by a woman calling herself The Space Lady!I think someone had uploaded it to the website from a tape cassette ? I can't remember now..At first it kind of creeped me out for some reason but as I started playing it a few times it suddenly got an emotional grip on me.. The electronics and her vocal delivery (for want of a better word) sound quite quaint but that's what grabs me about this track!I'd always wished that I had this on vinyl but like most of the music on the website I thought they were just one offs and so quickly forgot about it...That was until a couple of years ago where upon I decided to type her name into the cogs data base for a laugh. And surprisingly there she was and vinyl had been pressed up in her honor!I have the LP but always wanted the 7" as it just seemed right! Happy intergalactic daze! P.s. It's a shame 365days.com isn't on the web anymore as it had some right proper strange music on it! For instance it had Ken Nordine talking on record about EvaTone sound sheets (what ever they are I don't really know), Home made tapes made by psychotic kids and other such looniness!... Great stuff!
absolute trainwreck. masterpiece
