This album consists of just two tracks, each stretching across one whole side, The ‘A’ side, entitled “Ecstasy Of Destruction” is clocked as 24.35 minutes.. It’s an ever moving, ever changing mozaic of noise, transforming and filling out as it goes along. It becomes short-wave radio patterns, then percussion breaks through, both mechanical & Human. The chaos of radio interference is always there, waiting to usurp & take over the sound. It’s a busy sound, with gongs & watery noises, distant feedback & metal. Listen to this too loud & you could lose yourself in their primal soup. The second side, “Memory Of The Future” growls into the arena like some radioactive lion, hungry for Christians, thirsting for the kill. You may find yourself incarcerated in some underground factory, grating of metal against metal screams to the rough stone firmament over the cacophony of merging dimensions. My old reviewMorphogenesis were quite an awesome live phenomenon, setting & breaking the ground-rules for free electronic improvisation, and have inspired many other outfits.This is the original release of Stromatolites, which differs in a number of ways from the later CD release. The tracks here (billed as Stromatolites 1 & 2 on the CD version) are a lot less produced, sounding more live, with some bits well sonically overloaded. It's almost as though they are different pieces, and one is edited down significantly on the CD.Whatever, I like both - well, the CD does have a bonus track!Cassette vs. CDCassette A "Ecstasy Of Destruction" = CD Track 1 "Stromatolites 1"Cassette B "Memory Of The Future" = CD Track 2 "Stromatolites 2", except that the cassette version has an insert 14:32 to 18:56 which is actually an extract from from another piece (source unknown, similar in sound to a section of the CD bonus track) which was no doubt added to make side B a comparable length to the A side. If you listen very carefully on headphones you can hear the edits of where the insert fades in/out.Cassette channels are switched left/right to the CD (most likely a duplication error with the cassette version)
