Early seventies "Brass Rock" is not everybody's cup of tea, but the musicianship is present on a very high level for those with the ears to appreciate it. Albums like Swallow's "Out Of The Nest" are available cheaply and they offer a kind of pop rock so far removed from today's commercial schmaltz that they sound almost magical. Most of the songs are horn section heavy arrangements that sound like Classic Chicago or Blood, Sweat, and Tears until they abruptly change gears at times, such as with the B-side deep track "Come Home Woman" which is more in the vain of Buffalo Springfield or The Band, but with a gritty gravelly voiced singer. This record is fun! $4? C'mon! Buy it.
