This is one of those cases where the album is as common as dirt, but the single (‘You Gotta Let Go’, big with the Northern Soul heads) is as rare as hen’s teeth. I’ve only ever had one copy of it, but the album turns up almost every time you go looking for records here in Australia. But that being said, it simply means it’s one of the best easy-to-find Australian soul recordings out there. Marcia Hines is known to everyone from old school rock collectors right through to your teeny bopper Australia Idol watchers. This, her first album, featured none other than Jackie Orszaczky on bass and leading her band. There’s no real stand-out cuts because most of the album is really good funky soul, but if I had to choose it would be a toss-up between ‘Don’t Let the Grass Grow’ and ‘You Gotta Let Go.’ (aussiefunk.blogspot.com)
