Back in 1988 Dan Quayle was running for Vice President and the national news immediately reported that Quayle had avoided the Viet Nam War by having his wealthy father pull some strings and get him into the Indiana National Guard. Of course Bob & Tom were a ready to ape him as was every other comedian at the time. The comedy team created a song called "I Spent The War In Indiana" which was parody of the state's anthem "Back Home Again In Indiana". The song was aired on their morning show a few times...probably less than a week. They made national news headlines within 24 hours of the airing the song. This parody angered a few people, mostly the Quayle family who owned the media competition in town, the Indianapolis Star newspaper, and they moved to put pressure on WFBQ to pull the song. Bob & Tom were not very happy and decided to release the song on cassette.
