Läther was originally conceived by Zappa as a 4-record box set that was rejected by his record company in early 1977. Most of the compositions were re-edited (sometimes with other arrangements) over the next two years into several albums (principally Live In New York, Studio Tan, Sleep Dirt, & Orchestral Favorites). The project was released only in 1996.

Tracks 5 to 8 on CD3 are bonus tracks to the original Läther box set.

Läther was originally conceived by Zappa as a 4-record box set that was rejected by his record company in early 1977. Most of the compositions were re-edited (sometimes with other arrangements) over the next two years into several albums (principally Live In New York, Studio Tan, Sleep Dirt, & Orchestral Favorites). The project was released only in 1996.

Tracks 5 to 8 on CD3 are bonus tracks to the original Läther box set.

We've GOT to get a vinyl reissue of this sometime. It just has to happen. It's an essential part of Frank's discography and one woefully expensive and elusive on wax. Come on, ZFT!

Frank Zappa in 1977 had to according to his current contract still four LPs. To under this contract to come out he offered under the name "Lather" sufficient numbers for four LPs. The songs were rejected by the record company then they out of frustration by a local radio station had broadcast. The recordings of this broadcast circulated for years in the bootleg circuit and these are so at the real Zappa-fan known. Also state much of the material from "Lather" whether or not in a different implementation on other Frank Zappa albums. Yet this three CD's existing set still enough interesting material for the many Zappa fans.
