Xlisiahal
A bold album for Lightfoot. Following the heavier production and arrangements of the last two albums Lightfoot stripped it back to his combo and stuck with it. If there was ever any doubt of the Dylan influence in Lighfoot's songwriting this collection reveals it. Sharper tuned lyrics and more focused themes in an extremely strong collection of songs see Lightfoot returning to his musical roots. It'll be noted for the magnificent 'Wreck of the Edmund Fiztgerald' but everywhere you look on this album there are thought provoking songs on political or romantic themes. You can start to hear Lightfoot's voice start to age here and maybe the combo arrangements do lack a little energy and creativity but this is still a strong Lightfoot album.
