Different bands, different countries, different styles, but the same sincere passion and attitude. Released with great effort by multiple labels and organizations. International collaboration and diversity. Efficiently utilizing the format to the fullest. Finally publishing your tracks for posterity. The Holy Grail of the D.I.Y. Punk scene: the split 7" E.P.!La Société Elle A Mauvaise Haleine from France take up side A of the record with four tracks recorded in 2008; three original compositions and a cover of French 90's band Flagrants D'Eli.Backed by a drum machine and with dual girl/boy vocals, they sure make for an interesting treat of catchy Anarcho-Punk, with a personal favorite being "Tu Seras... Et Tais Toi!" ("You Will... And Shut Up"), a song about the gender roles imposed since an early age.Other lyrics deal with the usual war and police topics, but there is also a very interesting song about the Olympic games, which I found relevant to the similar situation of this year's World Cup.All tracks have been since made available on a bonus CD that comes with their latest 10" album "Tout Va Très Bien..." ("All Will Be Very Well"), along with almost all the other releases that La Société Elle A Mauvaise Haleine have put out since they started their journey in 2002.Unlike their French colleagues, Pavilionul 32 from Romania were here at their first vinyl appearance since they published their first demo tape in 2004. They did release some CD's in the meantime, including "Supunere? Niciodată!" ("Obedience? Never!") (2007), from which the six tracks on this record are taken.Featuring some of their best known tracks, the selection they present here is just a few songs short of being a "Greatest Hits" type of document. At least from that period, because as they have shown over time, Pavilionul 32 is the type of band that is always evolving and adapting, even if sometimes it is not voluntarily...I would have loved to see featured here some of their other tracks, like "Timișoara" or "Gluga Neagră" ("The Black Hood"), even if it were in place of some of the others that are present, but there are some good choices nonetheless, and I'm glad to have my favorite and what I consider to be their signature song, "Solidaritate" ("Solidarity").Topics covered deal with violence at gigs, abuse, hunting, as well as personal "My War" type of stuff, presented in the form of uncompromisingly short and to the point bursts of fast Hardcore-Punk, with a nice Trashy Crust.Unfortunately the delivery leaves some room for improvement, as it seems that the band members are playing in competition against each other, instead of together, sometimes at different speeds. But with the main focus of such acts being more about conveying of the ideas and attitude and less about the artistic value, it shouldn't stop the genre aficionados from enjoying the record. And besides, if it worked for M.D.C., why not also for Pavilionul 32? Perhaps it is an intentional and subtle homage? What I liked most about this record is the diversity of it all, from the style of the bands to the very interesting artwork, and the fact that both bands express themselves in their native languages, and made sure to provide English translations in the customary inserts. And a special mention for Pavilionul 32 for one of the most awesomely inspiring credit list I have ever read, which goes something like this: get the record and find out!
