ia http://harshnoise.org/Svartvit is a quite new, solo HNW act operated by Kevin Jansen who lives in the Netherlands. Although I have not been familiar with his works before, I have seen the name appear here and there in the past few years. “Auto-da-Fé” is his latest effort, dedicated to “all the unjust that is done to (anarchist) political prisoners and the fake solidarity that a lot of people show with activists, living off the enthusiasm and then backing out when needed. When someone gets imprisoned for their beliefs not only the first few months matter, they need full-time support. These things turn out to be even more important when people get frauded into jail just for owning some anarchist literature.“. To be honest, I have no idea how a HNW album can help spread the word about anarchist political prisoners but I guess it depends on how many people you actually wish to reach out to.The two tracks on the C16 tape could be described as “moving wall” type of HNW, as opposed to the Vomir-like “static wall”. Both are quite similar to each other being a heavy and intense slab of noise without much variation. The problem is that this is nothing new and Svartvit uses some pretty ordinary distorted textures. This is not the type of noise I’m particularly fond of because it lacks tension, composition and the tracks get pretty boring after a while even though they are not that lenghty. This type of sound might work well in a live setting but when I listen to an album at home, I’d rather hear something more complex and varied.“Auto-da-Fé” is what I usually refer to as “noise for the sake of noise” and even though it’s not bad, it just suffers from lack of originality. Check it out on Svartvit’s Bandcamp, as it might just be your cup of tea.
