Braendo
I had this original radio broadcast on tape > cd-r for years and I'm very seriously digging on this new release. They did an outstanding job of cleaning up this 40-year old recording as the sound of each instrument punches through nicely. And let this historic document erase ANY doubt about the what, why's and how's of East Bay Grease! Tight. They are in The Pocket like loose change. Those Squib Cakes....man, you can almost TASTE 'em! The band is locked in. As the legendary Stax bass player, Donald "Duck" Dunn (R.I.P.), once said to the Blues Brothers, "We had a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline!" Hope the ToP wasn't into any funky alchemy as described by Mr. Dunn else it coulda been a bit flammable after this epic 1974 set on Long Island... If only they would have taken the analog master and created vinyl pressings for us wax junkies. I have nearly everything else the Master Funkifizers put to grooved circles. This blazing set from '74 would have been perfect for a record store day release (though I'm not the biggest fan of that over-hyped marketing gimmick). Nevertheless, much gratitude to the East Bay Soul Bros for giving us this groove-laden goodie from the past!
