Yes, I agree. Spectral was one of the great Goa trance acts, and "Avalon" is an all-time favourite. Deeply hypnotic and charmingly other-worldly, its ethereal beauty never fails to charm the ear. The rest of the compilation is not too slack either. The opening to The Delta track has to be heard to be believed - so haunting. Recommended. ~*~
Spectral's 'Avalon' (Track C1) is the most amazing trance tune from the late 90's i can remember. I recently purchased this Double LP set from a user on Discogs, and i am blown away listening to this old favorite compilation 13 years later. It still sounds great; Amazing downtempo dub trance with a goa twist on vinyl is definitely groovy in my book!Sunking's 'Man's Tale' (Track B2) is a great cut with a choir sample throughout it that blends perfectly with a synth line that flows in and out throughout the track. It's lively in parts and very subdued in others. It's still a favorite track of mine off this compilation from back in the day...Galaxy's 'Open Your Heart' (Track C3) is a classic goa style trance tune that sounds amazing on LP. These 3 tracks will blow your mind if you can and do find this gem on LP. It's one of the classic BlueRoom Record's compilations that i absolutely love on LP!
Further exploring the outer reaches of the trance landscape, the ten-track Signs of Life compilation is an instrumental-only collection. Signs of Life sends out dance music and soundscapes for just kicking back and enjoying an electronic musical journey. Among the most spectacular tracks here are the speed synth propelled "Man's Tale" by Sunkings, the ethereal "Avalon" by Spectral which clocks in at almost 11 minutes, and the deep techno-grooved "Open Your Heart" by Galaxy. The music of India is the basis for both "Frozen Sand" by Liquid 7 and "As Above So Below" by Turban Bloc. On the former, Indian musical stylings are mixed with a galaxy of otherworldly sounds which soar over a thick beat, while on the latter Indian sounds and vocals are infused with classic Chicago house music percussion.
The album as a whole is like goa inside of a slow washing machine. It is psuedo-ambient and goa-infected. Avalon from Spectral delivers the strongest offering, and I have replayed the song many times. I wish I had a stronger bass system in my car. Even though there are other infamous trancers listed, their songs are not up to par.
