Lonesome Orange Kid
Eliot Lipp continues to represent American electronic music with THE OUTSIDE, which kicks off with some lo-fi electro-tinged IDM of the title track. Lipp keeps his beats on this side of straightforward hip-hop, though the layers of synths usually take over the tracks. "The Area," however, lets a hint of the Caribbean slide in at the start, and "Best Friends" keeps things perky. "Beyond the City" merges the deep bass with a twinkling melodic line. But the instrumental funk of "See What It's About" seems to come from another place altogether, though the broken chords of "The Meaning" help bridge the gap. "7 Mile Tunnel" introduces a cut-up chorus to pepper the IDM with textures, while "It's Time To Leave" brings in various guitar plucks into its orbit. In this case, it's good to bring the outside in.
