Low budget reissue as are any of the Trip's I have. Generic lp cover, and very flimsy vinyl on this one....with surprisingly great sound for what it is. Very dynamic use of the master tapes on this reissue far as I can tell. The rear cover mentions "Original Mono Recording". Sounds like Stereo to me not reprocessed with reverb and filtering. On headphone listening there is a slight amount of what appears to be wow occasionally, dynamic vibe recording is very tricky at best, throw in the rotors and it can really get weird. There are some really strange artifacts in the intro's and outro's. Driving a Big Band in 1959 was not a brilliant idea to say the least, the use of book standards even less so. The musicians are top notch, musicianship is excellent, it swings but seems tired and lacks soul. Gibbs saves it with some very stylish and inspired playing throughout, no flash but just cool...a taste of where he was headed.
