“Anesthesia” was the opening single, created to showcase Luna [who were then known as Luna², as the name Luna had already been taken], and establish them as a sort of counterculture indy band, heavily influenced by the joys of illegal substances, and the creation of music designed to enhance the joys of those substances ... mater of fact Dean has written twenty-seven [Galaxie 500, Luna, and Dean & Britta] songs that revolved around the use of narcotics, weed, and alcohol. “Anesthesia” has a fuzzy blues undertone that’s smartly counterbalanced by Dean Wareham’s vocals, and creative, playful lyrics. Add to that its lullaby qualities, and wobbly headed feel, and there’s not a reason on earth not to pop a Valium, and drop his single into the player.
