Seems that in France in the XXI century “Batcave” starts to evolve into “Catcave”. First we had Castrati with their mythical purple cat Pugsley, and now Cheshire Cat (The Bouncing) with their fantastic debut demo “There Is Nothing Better Than A Cheshire”. The band which plays “minimalist batcave”, as the band members call it, is remarkable foremost because it has the true Batcave spirit, but doesn’t afraid to be itself. So you hardly will find much of the references to the other bands, even though some Cramps and Batcave bands’ influences are obvious. And the second thing that can’t stop amazing is that in spite of having really scarce range of instruments (just vocals, bass and drums), the songs of Cheshire Cat (The Bouncing) are so catchy that they stay in memory for long and cause “itch” to listen to them again. So, even though the band doesn’t seem skilled in performance so far, and the songs definitely need arrangements, this demo is brilliant by its raw tension, energy and the real batcave spirit.
