Yllk
I bought this record when it first came out, from Apple Records in Croydon, which was run by John Kennedy, the regular (superb) warm up DJ at Lost. I was in there all the time as I worked in Croydon and it was an excellent way to spend your lunch hour. When I asked about this record, and “who is Santos Rodriguez?”, Mr. Kennedy duly informed me that it was some unknown Brazilian producer that Steve Bicknell (Lost promoter / label boss) had met whilst DJ’ing in Rio de Janeiro. I am not sure when I figured out that this was an absolute load of old cobblers, but this type of banter was to be wholly expected from the patrons of the best ever record shop in Croydon – one of whom being the actual person who made the record, Arthur Smith (aka Grain, Artwork, Santos Rodriguez). A superb release, and a regular fixture in John’s sets - he used to favour the bumping B1 track, and it always used to go down an absolute storm on the Lost and Burundi dancefloor.

B1 has always been my fave and was the track I used to hear out all the time when this was new (and caned every weekend for what seemed like forever)

Found this vinyl just now resorting my collection, got A2!!! written all over it's label but can't remember the track at all.. Oh well, maybe that's why i wrote that on the label cause it's a damn fine tribal tool!

Immense!

This record is amazing, but if you want to hear something more than just percussive patterns, the outside tracks are the way to go. Just the right amount of stabs and tones, and more swing than you can shake a stick at. Santos Rodriguez is indeed Grain, whose other releases on Fatcat are remarkably sick. And hard to find.
