Don't know their earlier projects, but this one is pretty cool. Some influences like Siouxsie & The Banshees or Laika, or Nick Cave, Diamanda Galas, PJ Harvey or French sanson (well, don't remember the right word - 'song', you know :) come to mind, but the band has it's own, impressive style. Darker, more straight (and wider musically at the same time) and coldly aggressive blend of cabaret and alternative rock than Dresden Dolls. No, it's not a mere Dresden Dolls / The Bad Seeds hybrid. It's not just a TV on The Radio side-project neither. They are good on their own. And they are right in their time with the music: it smells new, modern, even with that retro aura in it's form. Very-goth-without-being-really-goth sort of thing. Math without any math, indie-tronics but there's only some points in which any electronics are audible. Post- ... what? maybe that's a new post-something, like post-punk and post-rock before it. Maybe that's real post-goth? Or postpunk after post-rock? Or maybe that's just how Siouxsie w/ Banshees or her later projects should sound today. Well, Katharina Ford has her own, unique delivery, it must be stressed. She deserves much more words about her style but I just prefer to listen to her than write about it, sorry. A new style? Post-goth? Or just another good band. It's good old 4AD label, so such a question should stay wihout clear answer, don't you think? Anyway I like it. And the lyrics are good, honest. Like them as well, and they interfere with the music wonderfully."Celebration" sounds close and remote at the same time, an attribute I have found in the 80s: original post punk / early goth rock; but here it's achieved in some other way; check it out.
