Notes

"Hi-de-hi, hi-di-ho! How do you like that?
Ella Elephant will teach you how to scat."

Children's book with CD.
Still In Mind
This is one of several Jazz-themed books from the people at "Baby Loves Music" that comes with a "Cool Jazz CD Inside" as the cover says. It further promises "sing-alongs, stories, and more" which might get some people's hopes up higher than what they will find as the content is "simply" Jazz music to illustrate the pictures in the book. But don't get the impression that you are not getting your money's worth here. These are some of the coolest children books I have come across. Actually, I think they are THE coolest due to the music on the CDs included. My daughters loved them when they were little. Each CD runs between 15 and 20 minutes with each track clocking in one to two minutes so that young children can keep the excitement up.Ella Elephant Scats Like That was the first Baby Loves Jazz book I heard about because it features singer Sharon Jones (of Dap-Kings fame) - but the last one I actually got my hands on. I was expecting to be blown away, especially because of Sharon's contribution. Well, there are other Baby Loves Jazz books/CDs which work slightly better for me, but I still recommend this one. Of course the musical result is not Daptone Deep Funk, but similar to the Jazz content of the other volumes, plus some soulful scatting and some singing. In each song Sharon/Ella introduces different instruments, which hasn't been a bad idea since Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. In addition you get some fun songs like Peanut Butter & Jam, Ears Scat and Scat McDonald (had a farm...)
