Mr.Twister
I know that this is supposed to be a revival of the brilliant Gatecrasher Classics of past albums, but this one really didn't do it for me. They included all of the commercial tunes from the releases past, and the order in which the songs appear and especially the mixing really lack. I can't really put my finger on what it is but from what other users say, it is computer mixed so perhaps that is the issue. It's nothing like the first five Gatecrasher albums or anything mixed with thought. The first CD is quite dull, despite having DJ Tiesto's Suburban Train, Binary Finary's 1998, Liquid Child's Diving Faces, Nalin & Kane's Beachball, Cygnus X's The Orange Theme and Lustral's Everytime. It also featured Solar Stone's Seven Cities which is also a delight, but it just feels too generic for my liking. The second CD also features a decent tracklist, but when seeing this as a revival it just falls short and doesn't include songs from Disco-Tech, which was my favourite GC album (the only track was Solar Stone's Seven Cities). It does have the typical overused hits like Paul Van Dyk's For An Angel, B.B.E's Seven Days & One Week (seriously?!), but we do get the awesome Lost Witness' Happiness Happening and Atlantis Vs Avatar's Fiji. I honestly believe it really lacks in comparison to previous releases and the Euphoria series, and the mixing on the CD is no better than the first. The third and final CD is the worst of the three, going into house music territory and moving away from what made GC a successful compilation. Olive's You're Not Alone is not a trance anthem, nor is Basement Jaxx's Bingo Bango or David Morales' Needin' You so it becomes a typical filler experience that I would not re-visit again in future. Overall, it's very disappointing in my opinion and I know a lot of you may disagree with this review but I just couldn't enjoy what was presented. For nostalgia, and a quality listen I would recommend Gatecrasher: Wet and Disco-Tech which were the third and fourth albums.
