The Celtic Frost vibe continues on this one (see tracks 2 & 4) as it did in early Napalm Death already, so nothing new about that...the rest is in 70s tradition a la early Kiss & Sabbath but it's done really good and a great album in it's own right, and what was lacking in the 70s was the modern sound and technique which exists now...much more heavy sounding...But if I'd been Tom G Warrior with all his personal problems with Celtic Frost as a band ...when everyone waited for their greatest record after Into the Pandemonium (which was promising) they decided to totally wimp out unfortunately and instead of being serious be commercial with Cold Lake...so as said before, if I'd been TGW I'd be proud every time a good record with his influences came into existence, I hope he was...or maybe laugh every time he heard a Uh! and Hey!...at least these songs aren't made by rip off bands for the most part...it's more of a tribute when it happens...and I remember hearing this first time and thinking "great they're good again" & the album theme is awesome down to the scent of apple from the CD itself which is intact after all these years.But it's all about the last song The Garden the 27 min epic which could've been released as a single EP track with all the other tracks on a 2nd CD as bonus tracks...if they wanted to. I have written a couple of those long ones myself in my time (90s) just to see if I could and if it were any good...but no band I was jammin' with had the patience to rehearse them...so they stayed forever in my archive cabinets...

The scent works for much longer than that. I didn't know about it and just found out while doing my collection - so on album released in 2005 the scent is still there in 2017!!!!!
