OCARO
I've listened a number of times to "breizhiselad". It's a great listen. I can't place the original music, 100%, although it does sound familiar. I think it reminds me of the sound in old black & white movies, were the sound distorts because of age. Some of the choral parts are similar to the singing parts in old movies, especially where there is a heaven scene to be soundtracked. But the reworking is more fractured & haunting, obviously. The liner notes describe how this old music has been rewritten (or interpreted). But I get more of a sense that Cordier is trying to mark a place in time & a location close to him, from the past. There is a real feeling of a narrative going on with the music. Like he is trying to tell a story, recall some kind of history ? The sound is coarse & physical, with a haunting ambience . . . A haunting nostalgia ! Like the sounds represent memories. Highly Recommended, Walt.
