So, only 4 copies, but 94 owners and sold about 10 times at least?Maybe no-one has ever listened to the B-side except for the original submitter, Czechneck
As reviewed by me in January 1995:Summary: A bit too percussive for most ambient sets, but a quality example of the Orb's trancey side. A must-have for fans of the Orb's UFOrb album.Japanese electronic artist Keiichi Suzuki finally got his single released in June after getting caught up in the Orb's ongoing label wrangles. Orb fans already familiar with the Transasian Express mix, released on under-the-counter 12"s last year, may still want to check out this CD, as the new mixes are very much along the lines of UFOrb material. The Saturday and Sunday Mixes are slowly building trance techno pieces utilizing a full, rich combination of layered short sequences. They are similar to the Orb singles "Assassin" and "U.F.Orb (Bandulu remix)" in feel. My only complaint is that they are a little too fast for their dub-style basslines. The epic Transasian Express Mix is a midtempo version using many of the same sounds as before, but arranged in a more entertaining electronic dub style. Rather than applying the delay effects to the percussion, the effects are reserved for the synth lines. A deep bleepy bassline and emphasized drum machine patterns dominate the second half of the mix. The accompanying Dub mix is merely a reprise, offering nothing new except a modified drum pattern.
The Transasianexpress Mix is arguably the best piece of music you will hear in your lifetime. 10/10 just doesn't come close. Musical perfection. End of.
Yes, very much so. I bought it just before a long journey abroad in the late summer of 1994 and was thinking "I shouldn't buy a record when I'm about to go abroad for such a long time" but couldn't resist it, it just beckoned me. I loved all tracks, but the Transasian Express - 12/10 - I did record it on tape, and alongside UfOrb it became the soundtrack for the whole trip. :)
my thoughts exactly ! i have no words to describe the feelings really
Nothing personal
always known the transasianexpress at 45 not 33 as a friend made an error back in 1994.. and since everyone else I know has also heard it at 45.
Another souce of samples in the Orb's Transasianexpress mix may be from the opening and closing credit music for a documentary about Joseph Campbell, called 'The Hero's Journey' that came out in 1987. The music is hauntingly beautiful and is composed by Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead and Rand Wetherwax.
Longitude Temporary
The Transasianexpress remix by The Orb is a classic piece of ambient house that was immortalised on Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure compilation. However, it was only recently I realised that some of those ethereal pads from the intro are sampled from Tangerine Dream - Sudden Revelation from their 1987 album Canyon Dreams. It's worth listening to the source material to get a sense of how The Orb rearrange and layer the sample in the track. An insight into their working process, and a nod to one of the major influences on contemporary ambient music.
Got this when it came out and it is a stunning 4 tracker CD.....up there with some of the Orbs best tunes.
Skunk Black
One of the most beautiful ambient records ever in my opinion. The guitar part in the intro is just spine-tingling, and the beats and bass when they come in complement the atmosphere of the tune perfectly. A timeless classic, 10/10 no question.
Yep. Blown away when I first heard this. Love it
The Transasianexpress Mix features on the first Northern Exposure CD by Sasha and John Digweed and features a sample of the BBC's David Attenborough.
