Ganthisc
The Jamaican vibes of "Soldier" that kick off U CAN'T LURN IMAGINASHUN seems a bit at odds with the French rap, but it works nonetheless. More than anything, it shows off DJ Vadim's eclecticism, as he swerves into slow hip-hop electro on "R3 Imaginasun" to the soul swing of "That Night." He delves into Spanish romanticism with "Beijos" and mellow, feel-good funk on "Saturday." Vadim doesn't rely as much on vocals on this album (though Yarah Bravo makes a welcome return on "You Are Yours"), and it seems as if the musicality actually increases, from the dub of "Under Your Hat" to the sample of "Nadia's Theme" on "Game Tight" or even the urban soul of "I Want to Shout Out." For good measure, there's even some ska on "Hidden Treasure." The album ends on the mysterious samples of "Tu He Ma Ne Toddy" -- though it sounds most likely to be from Bollywood. Good cheeky fun throughout.
