Joakim has always been a house outlier, but with his collection MY BEST REMIXERS, he shows why he's still definitely in the game. From the rolling percussion and acid of Annie's "Always Too Late" to the rock attitude of The Chap's "Ethnic Instrument," he shows off his versatility. Indeed, "Pocket Piano" from DJ Mehdi gets a disco-tinged mix at first, appropriate for its bouncing piano chords, before it morphs into something else entirely, while Zombie Zombie gets some weirdo-electro for "Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free." That electro becomes more stark with Tiga's "Pleasure From The Bass" and Lionel Hampton's "Vibromatic" and stuttering with Late of the Pier's "The Bears Are Coming." But when the wars of the egos start, the listener is the clear winner: first with the twinkling melodies of Clashing Egos' "Aminjig Nebere" and then with Alter Ego's upbeat (though not significantly altered) "Why Not?" Cut Copy have their 80s retro-futurism of "Hearts on Fire" shined up, and Antena has their Brazilian vibe completely deconstructed, while Max Berlin gets his French spoken-word put into some mellow electro-house. A fascinating collection.

Nice remixes, bad mastering!
