To me this is an audiophile classic.the separation between the instruments and the crispness of the production are truly exceptional. As some of the reviews below reference this is really about the engineers, the musicians and Trevor Horn. I would say it is almost irrelevant who the singer was. It gives enjoyment on the same way as tubular bells in that it is a variation on a central theme. In an ideal world the ball reissue this album and I would be very interested to hear the early takes and the tracks or recordings that did not make the cut. Five-star all day long

An intriguing album. Variations of a superb lead track with ZTT technicians showcasing their immense and unique production skills. Intersections sound like Art Of Noise musings with Ian Shane reading rather wonderfully from a Paul Morley autocue, but the production never fails to impress even when the album is leading you into a dead end before the spectacular finale. Awe inspiring in places especially if you treasure A Secret Wish from Propaganda and like that album, one or two precision chants from Heaven 17's Glenn Gregory resulting in something of an audiophile gem. If you pick up a copy of this on vinyl, it will be worth every single penny. Enjoy.

It's about time this album is re-released and remastered by either ISLAND or ZTT - either companies treat artist's deluxe editions properly so there's no worry there, they just need to HURRY UP!
Hadadel
If you wonder why track Don't Cry - It's Only The Rhythm distorts like mad... It was recorded out of left-right balance in many places, and in several also out of phase. Even my Denon DL-103R in tangential tone arm cant track that. But Ortofon Concorde Nightclub II professional DJ pickup - amazingly - can. Its one of the hardest tracking torture tests ever cut in vinyl.
Wafi
Fragments of ideas were put together to make it a whole album in ZZT fashion: large instrumentation, Fairlightness, Art of Noise manner. No good "songs" but experimental filler. The only real thing is the title song. Superb production, horrible vocal..
Naa
It took me decades before I grew to really like Grace's voice (I don't think if I lived for five more decades I'd never like Bob Dylan's). Anyway....having bought their stiff with Sly and Robbie and enjoying that vibe I bought her trilogy of disco albums ftom the 70s and then I realised I was hooked!! Now I'm in my fifties and I realise at long last I like great vocals but I like vocals with personality most of all. Someone might have a fantastic voice, an incredible range, accuracy and power....but if their delivery has no character, no charisma then they don't sustain my interest. Grace Jones has something compelling. She may sing sharp, yes....but I don't care. I finally get it!
Tar
Not an album I picked up at the time, at just 17 my purchasing power was very limited, and in fact I have just bought a rather worn copy a mere 28 years after its original release, and I'm glad I finally got to hear it.This is an album that is, if not great, then very good, almost in spite of itself. Less an album, more an idea, a theme and variations, indeed as Simon Reynolds comments in the excellent "Rip It Up And Star Again" it is more a meta-album, a document of its own creation, than it is a finished product. The journey the album takes you on is most enjoyable; from pure Trevor Horn stadium pop bombast, through Art-Of-Noise inspired concrete episodes of snatches of processed instruments and voices, to the snippets of interviews that are interspersed; it takes many unexpected twists and turns. Ultimately I suppose it fails to match its own grand ambition - the distilled version of the titular piece that appears on 12" is superior to my ears - but still something that should be heard or owned by anyone who has an interest in the incredibly fertile melting pot that was the eighties post-punk era.
Sennnel
agree about the 12"
