Molotok
I have this senile propensity simply to share my delight in some music: this is not for lovers of the art of Depeche Mode or U2. I'm afraid not! The title track is stunning, the band rocks and swings like crazy, heaping layer upon layer of instruments on top of each other and then at 1.56 Ellington himself plays his solo for some 11 seconds and you wish you had been there, when this maybe best of all bands played live on an excellent night somewhere between 1930 and 1973. And you have to contend yourself with transfers of transfers and what the hell, it's the Ellington Band. And yeah The Jesus Lizard were excellent live and Little Feat until 1976 too, and take a look at the live rendition of "From Her to Eternity" in "Der Himmel ue[for the German Umlaut-u]ber Berlin" (Wings of Desire), absolutely stunning, and the Talking Heads in 1980 or Sly and the Family Stone 1967, yeah all excellent and top of their game, but not the Ellington Band, of course it's totally daft to state, that one particular band is not another one. You can also try "Jungle nights in Harlem" or "The Gal from Joe" or "Thanks for the lovely land on the Delta" or "Ko-ko" (none of them on this record, but Ellington records have this ridiculous disparity between current sales value and musical richness). Why on earth should you want to endure shite music when you can listen to the mighty Duke Ellington Orchestra?
