This was Kataklysm's second EP and sounds nothing like they do nowadays. The guitar tone is definitely death metal, with a morbid sound similar to old Obituary or Possessed, or the early Relapse releases. There's a great variety in the riffs, from slow chords to fast sixteenth notes. The drums are clear, sharp, and fast. It's obvious the drummer has been playing along to his favorite grind records. Just like the original grind bands, the bass guitar is a grinding blurr. What really sets this record apart is the vocals. Oftentimes it sounds like three people are singing. Slyvain Houde is all over the place, from sub-gutteral gore grind growls to mystical black metal shrieks. And he can spew all that just within one verse! These vocals are not just random, either. There is a definite method to Sylvain's madness. His vocals twist and slide around the guitar riffs, so that one instrument does not overpower the other. It's really a shame Sylvain ended up leaving the band. The band was never the same without him.
