This is a real masterpiece.As a big fan of both Solar Fields and Aes Dana, this duo somehow brings out the best in both. One can only hope they will reunite and produce new material at some point. :)I know own all Ultimae recodings, and this is the one CD that I keep going back to. It's dark, relaxing, mysterious and interesting. Tracks like Distances are worth the price of admission on its own, and Rain Geometries is icing on the cake. Honestly though, there are no weak tracks on this disc. It all flows naturally from the first second to the last. That said, Distances is probably the biggest moment of ambient electronica I've ever had the pleasure to experience. Pure bliss. Thanks Vincent and Magnus. :)I'm aware that some people claim this disc has been mastered from mp3 sources, but to be perfectly honest I cannot hear it. The sound is lush and clear, and perfectly enjoyable. Maybe the top end is a bit too brittle and sharp at times, but judging from the bass alone, this doesn't sound like mp3 at all. This is played back on a very high-end system. I'd love a source to this claim, I can't find anything backing it up.Nevertheless, a masterpiece it is. Own it, love it.

HUVA fans will feel right at home with this release. A typical HUVA sound exposed to its 2 main components in a live show: Solar Fields and Aes Dana. The contribution of each is heard much more distinctly in this live set than their joint albums, where the mix is more refined and homogeneous. This balance is a good thing as it creates much more raw and authentic arrangements. Melodies build-up very carefully, thoughtfully, with each artist adding his share to the pile. Stylistically, this release feels more cheery and uplifting than the often-melancholy stuff Ultimae is famed for, a predictable practice considering this is a live set.While the sound is nothing new to any who have followed HUVA's latest albums, there are some rare touches of ethnic motifs (the excellent Rain Geometries) and an up-beat finish (Overload) that somewhat set this apart. The set generally flows from long "preparatory" phases that stretch hazily, forming build-ups that slowly - but surely - lead the crowd towards explosive melodies. This serves, as a whole, as a very well-balanced composition and makes this album walk the fine-line between up-beat and down-tempo quite successfully. The exceptionally long Distances track is, by itself, a great example of this.The CD contains tracks both in stand-alone and in a continual mix fashion, an often requested form among pro and amateur DJs, that have thus far usually gone un-answered by artists. Beyond the obvious Ultimae fan base, this release will appeal to digital ambient fans who are looking for a bit of an uplifting kick to go along with their spacey, meditative synths. The downside is that it all pretty much sounds the same, and doesn't provide a great replay value.
