Datrim
The original is quite a stupid and simple record, it sounds exactly what comes to mind when someone mentions "German Techno" but in a negative matter. An off-beat bassline, a stupid synth riff and some monotonous german vocals. The lyrics don't mention "oontz oontz techno sex", but they might as well be. But the hard sell for a record like this is that it has to be ridiculously catchy, and it is.The remixes were much more interesting and the best one is on this release. Felix da Housecat toughens the track up and gets rid of the stupid elements. The vocals to make the more robotic, some distotion is used to good use and it's a solid slab of dirty housey techno. Ronan Harris of VNV Nation kicks up the tempo and delivers a mix that is partly psy-trance and partly futurepop and it's a stonker of a record. Ronan Harris borrows the bassline from Patrick Hernandez' "Born To Be Alive" and works it onto a driving beat where it works as main course until the hook is dropped. Harris kept the hook but replays it on a fuller saw pad for a few bars and then gets creative with the filters. Halfway in an acidline is whacked into the mix and works the track till the end. A really banging remix and a great tool in any trance jocks' crate.
