I last saw Deleon live in London perform and minister some 12/13 years - the anointing she carried was strong. The whole LP is nothing short of brilliant. Sung with a notion of having been there Deleon is impressive and sounds like she does speak from the heart. The mix of 12 songs are balanced well; it flows to be adaptable in all kinds of social backdrops. 'Straight From The Heart' is a superbly produced compote of mature 2-step r & b, funkier dance scores, midtempo ballads, there's even a traditional ol' churcy styled spiritual to hold your attention (some church elders will 'dig' it), and more importantly, from a lyrical aspect this album is full of the Word - there is no subtlety or misunderstanding to be heard here. Sister Deleon shares her faith and lifts up the name of Jesus from the start to engage all those with ears to hear and who are ready to receive some wholesome messages that will encourage, uplift and inspire the listener, or at least stir up something good within them. For any doubters out there, don't though be fooled into thinking this is some pie-in-the-sky, happy-clappy, sing-a-long collection. The message is in the music and put together by Deleon's team: J-Dub, Sean & Nate, ToneX, T-Boy, Percy Bady, Sean Hall and Dent with serious intention. For gospel enthusiasts and music heads alike, you'll get many repeat plays of fulfillment from this solid album that still has a freshness about it which is as strong now as it was on import release twelve years ago.
