hmmm... wondering if there's a reason the 'cd' version hasn't been listed, yet(?)https://www.discogs.com/Interpol-Our-Love-To-Admire-RE-LPDVD-Bundle/release/10727231

Look at him! Carlos D has mutated from the camp SS commander stalking the shadows in expressionist corridors to Father Guido Sarducci. Lord Shuttleworth of Buckinghamshire. A Cluedo character, if you will. More sharp suits, tie clips, ashtrays on mic stands.Whatever. There’s always been something straight and honest about Interpol that sidesteps all talk of “image”. The band’s tales of inner-city loneliness, hopes, dashed hopes, good sex, bad sex, stabbing yourself in the neck etc. have always shone a lakeside mile brighter than the cufflinks and haircuts could attest. Debut album Turn on the Bright Lights’ heartbreaking statement of bruised withdrawal, NYC, being the primary piece of evidence in their sonic arsenal.Like the point in a dying relationship in which anger turns to apathy, Interpol spin the sort of self-loathing melancholia that feels strangely therapeutic. And with third album, Our Love To Admire, the band have colonised the rich turf at the intersection of meticulously structured mope-rock and free-flowing three-chord pop, where moments of resignation cosy up alongside twinkling hopes for the future like Winehouse to the sauce. Those still divided over Paul Banks’ lyrical ability – cool one-liners or cod-literate non-sequiturs? – will find cause to align, for more often than not cliché is aptly transformed into profundity – epic Fritz Lang-ish opener, Pioneer To The Falls’ open armed cry of “You fly straight into my heart” a case in point. The track however is a red herring with its elegiac, Untitled-esque atmospherics sharply segueing into the wonderfully playful No I In Threesome. The Heinrich Manoeuvre, follows suit with a gloating kiss-off to an ex-girlfriend shot through with a high-tensile riff – the declaration of self-sufficiency toe-touching the singer’s shouts of “I’ll take you on” on the similarly cocksure All Fired Up.As with second album Antics, on repeated listen the pop production contorts to reveal a string of subtleties. The redemptive Pace Is The Trick rests on a solitary riff that runs for the duration of the tune, before the group’s crisp guitar jolts, fluid basslines and mechanistic drumming gloriously reunite on Who Do You Think. Rest My Chemistry, meanwhile doesn’t merely exploit the adrenal exhilaration of coke, it actively wallows in the gritted-teeth edginess of the drug. “I haven’t slept for two days/I’ve bathed in nothing but sweat/And I’ve made hallways scenes for things to regret/My friends they come/And the lines they go by” avows Banks over a Pixies-aping rhythm, climaxing with a melodic break that sees the singer readopting on his highfalutin habits.Wrecking Ball continues with the apologies. “Nobody told you that I could just waltz through and shake up your style”, sings Banks, well aware that he’s delivering one of the most beautiful, affecting, and vociferous lines of his career. Indeed, Our Love To Admire is the doleful celebration of a band scarred but crucially not stalled by the artifice of fame and fortune. Interpol remain deeply unsatisfied souls and sound all the better for it.
