Previously released on Cassette only (through Sofa Sound), this is the LP release of the "Lost" Van Der Graaf Generator period (post-"Pawn Hearts", pre-"Godbluff").

Tracks A1 and B1 have a Vocals overdub, Track A4 a Saxophone overdub. All other tracks are from the original tapes.

Track A5 is a compilation track containing fragments of the other songs.

The sleeve notes provided with 'Time Vaults' state that these are not studio-quality recordings. That is undoubtedly true. This is VDGG in the raw, partial tracks and snippets from studio tapes and ranging between the years '71 -'75. Tracks that never saw the light of day (with the exception of a fleshed out version of 'Black Room' on a Hammill solo album). This is powerful stuff, the concentrated essence of VDGG, trying out stuff in the studio, larking about and it's truly bizarre in parts. This is, I guess, only for the enthusiasts. It's absolutely essential.
