The closest album to this (after the other two of Doheny's early albums which are also awesome) is another blue eyed soul brother Bobby Caldwell. His first record is probably as equally unknown by most as this album (and almost equally celebrated by people who know it), but it did have a big hit on it. Also David Batteaux - Happy in Hollywood or the album with his bro Batteaux. So many albums in this genre have one or two good or great songs on an album then the rest are just not as great. Someone else mentioned the Alessi brothers -who are awesome and similar even if not every song is good on their first album -a great suggestion. I even think Donny and Joe Emerson have a similar appeal on some songs, even though they more of a psych instrumentation with a more souther soul style, but the whole album is good. Another thing to check out is Psychemagik compilations like 'Beach' where they have found crazy obscure 70s chill songs that are just so good.
