One GREAT (often overlooked)album from Felix with so many inspirations thrown in('romantique'in particular reminds me of Prince!)&full of so many amazing moments!! Definitely worth checking out if youre a fan of electro that steps out of the box! And this vinyl pressing is stellar&full of life&sparkle, mastered by the great Nilz!

Not a bad release although I feel there is only one real 'stand-out' track which is 'Ready-to-Wear. Worth a listen but definately nothing new or ground breaking here.
one life
This is the version you want. It includes "Sweet Low Tokyo" featuring Juliette Lewis (!) on lead vocals, and she has a very effective, sexy delivery. It's a fair companion piece to the piece de resistance in "Rocket Ride", with the same grinding guitars, fused with the elastic P-Funk bassline of "What She Wants". Call Lewis the Brides of Funkenstein / Parlet bookend to LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and his usual dead-on George Clinton vocal shenanigans on "What She Wants". The album maintains Mr. Stallings's risque-fun vibe throughout. The closing track samples an Italo classic, but it is done more as an homage than a ripoff like pop music does when it samples classics whether underground or mainstream. The sample is credited in the liner notes. Plus, this version's vocals are way better than the original (no Italian comical lack of rounded vowels, as in the letter "O" only sounding like "Ohhh"), and I love Doctor's Cat enough to have the one album and all the singles on original vinyl. On samples, I didn't notice a sample credit of the classic "Trans Dance" by Night Moves (1981) on "Let Your Mind Be Your Bed" (one of the more likely skipped tracks), of the influential "It's Alright" by Sterling Void (1987) on "Watching Cars Go By", of "How Much Are They?" by Holger Czukay & Jah Wobble on "Hunting Season", or the interpolation or sample of "Around the World in a Day" AND a b-side "Girl" by Prince--yet another Prince fascination--on "Nitelife Funworld", however.

While not as charming as KITTENZ AND THEE GLITZ, Felix da Housecat's follow-up DEVIN DAZZLE & THE NEON FEVER delves even more into the 80s music, particularly New Wave. Lyrics from The Neon Fever have a strong, rhythmical power to their shout. "Short Skirts" is humorously sexy, while "Hunting Season" is a unique take on grrl power. Elsewhere, "Everyone is Someone in L.A." is a wonderful electro send-up of celebrity culture, and "Watching Cars Go By" is appropriately driving. But other tracks ("What She Wants," "Let Your Mind Be Your Bed")seem rather rushed and not fully thought out, and others are too tantalizingly short ("She's So D*mn Cool," "Nitelife Funworld"), like embryos that haven't gestated. It feels as if Felix was trying to capitalize on the goodwill generated by the earlier album. But there's still enough here to warrant a listen.

An amazing cd by Felix. Track 10, labeled Watching Cars go by, is one of the biggest funky house smashes in my area. It has been used in many huge and famous mixes. The cd is of average quality, but there are a few standout tracks that make it a valuable purchase. Any fans of Felix's music should definitely pick it up.
