Koen Mistrate Haarhuis has produced two other EPs on the ITWT label, namely Existence (ITWT 380-5) and, under his Solid Haze pseudonym in league with MileZ, Reduxed (ITWT 389-5). Skywalker, however, is his masterpiece. Featuring a very heavy bassline and thumping beats, Skywalker is really unrelenting in its energy and is most certainly a wall of sound kind of track, with the listener very rarely getting a chance to relax eardrums. Something about Skywalker just makes it unique to the ITWT back catalogue, but it hard to analyse why exactly with my limited musical knowledge. It is a track which features a long, energetic build-up to an utterly orgasmic conclusion, and there are certainly many of those on ITWT, in particular Dennis Waakop Reijer's phenomonal A Binary Star (ITWT 321-5) but there is something else which strikes Skywalker apart from the chaff. It's structure remains fairly standard in trance terms, but remarkable individual elements are masterfully woven together to create an all-encompassing wall of sound. Just listen to the melody beginning in earnest at 3.30, it's enough to make even Tiesto salivate. At 4.11, the five note motif begins which sounds like the scene in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind directed by Steven Spielberg (1979) where the alien ship makes musical contact with the humans to say "H-E-L-L-O". I do not easily recall such high-pitched notes being used on a trance track before, at least not in this fashion, and it makes Skywalker all the more unique-sounding. At 5.06, the blistering breakdown occurs, 'skywalking' begins, and orgasms ensue. The outtro at around the 7 minute mark still doesn't slow down it's energy too much, but it does provide DJs and mixers the perfect opportunity to segue it into another track with minimal fuss, which is another plus point of this wonderful track. After the ferocious Skywalker, surely the B-Side, Enchant, must be a return to normality and bring listeners back down to the ground? Well, no, not really. Enchant is yet another Ekon track with devastating beats, which lead us unabridged to the birth of the track's primary melody at the 3 minute mark. A military-esque drumbeat arrives at 4.13 to give the track yet more purposeful flavour, while the playful melody leads us into yet another session of pounding beats. All things come to together at 5.15, and provide the listener with a satisfying euphoric conclusion. Enchant may not be quite the masterpiece as Skywalker, but it is no less rewarding to listen to - and preferrably as loudly as possible!
