American bretheran to the European EBM scene seem to have more razor blade glares & sabre teeth to their music, as this record proves beyond a shadow of a doubt. "Japanese Bodies '92" is a tight, hard dance piece with a repeating motif (the title), and is carried along by a memorable tune. "Leætherstrip Part II" comes next, another tight, determined-sounding track with sequenced bassline & fuzzed-to-white voice. It transforms into a sub-Punk berzerk-out just before it's conclusion. "Rotation" is a thunderous, driving dance-floor piece, using found voice minimally to add a little colour to it's shiny black Body Music carapace. Compulsively moving stuff. "Mohawk" grows on a more tribal sound - moodier, more varied than previous tracks, gaining it's electronic rhythm to carry the track along on a slightly slower, more serpentine BPM with fuzzy guitar addig interesting motifs & whispered vox giving it a feel of dark secrecy. "Razorblades '92" picks up the tempo again, a basic fast dance track with a tambourine-voice backbeat to slow it down a little for we older generation. It sweeps up into a faster thrash halfway through showing how much Punk has influenced this scene, even if people want to believe differently. "Torment Me" is another basic Torture Tech track with enough drive to keep it both interesting & danceable. A voice keeps saying 'we know what works - freedom works' rather naively. "What's Hell Really Like" opens with effected voice asking the question before jumping into a hectic & exciting dance piece which rivals BABYLAND for manic tempo. Vocalist has a nasty, dark lecher sound, adding gravity to a tune like a MUNSTERS soundtrack remixed through radical FX. "Touchdown Breakdown" is another filler, fast & repleat with interesting sounds, but more like a fast Dub track than an In-Yer-Face blast out. "Die, Die, Die" is a slower, calmer piece falling into a CABARET VOLTAIRE style circa "Code" - apparently it's about the Death Penalty (I gather). A tight, solid piece with enough interesting events to keep you hooked. "Zyklon B" even has a gaseous sound to the drums & gaspy vox. It's a less dense piece, more moody & spacious, a drifting soundtrack for those who wish to lose themselves in a more textured sound. Having said which, it is still a strong slow-dance piece. "Body Machine Body" follows with a piece which is very much a song, a little like CLICK CLICK infected with busy EBM electronics. Hooky with the title repeated over & over. "Satanic Citizen" is very different - strange distorted sounds pulled into a song structure - fuzzed keyboards, flesh-against-flesh smacks of snare & a grizzled tune. "Battleground" is a bunch of grizzling, almost animal-like samples fed over a basic Torture Tech rhythm, cracking in short gated splashes. Another album track - hardly strong or immediate enough to make single status, yet full of listenable twists & turns. "Change" is a possible single track - a fully-realised song, mild yet compulsive, full of variety & style. "Leætherstrip Part I" closes the album, and is perhaps the most adventurous track here - a veritable Odyssey of variations on a theme. A decent dance album , as mentioned, perhaps a little harder than most of the ANTLER-SUBWAY music, but in a similar vein. Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
