Mysterious Wrench
very tragic song about the Death of a Kentucky Spelunker named Floyd Collins. The story goes is that he was a regional spelunker who made a deal with a man who owned land near Mammoth Cave. His Idea was that there was another opening to Mammoth cave in an unknown Sand Cave on the property. He went into the Cave and claimed to have found the opening, On his way up, somehow or another, he got he left foot pinned by a 16 lb rock. In the process of trying to free himself, he got his hand lodged in place too. He also knocked out his lantern. The Next day friends came and found him down in the cave. The next two weeks came by as the nation would hear about this man stuck down in the cave. Dozens of people came to try and save Floyd Collins, Reporters and such too. The Event was messed up, because as the nation came to the site, Vendors set up outside and made it into a carnival type event. (Keep in mind a man was dying underneath them) At the same time people were coming down to help him, they gave him food and water. Around the 7th day, the cave collapsed in two places, and for some reason they didnt decide to dig him out until 5 more days. When they finally got to him, the doctors had estimated he had died only 3 days previously. The Song perfectly puts the basic info together into a half heartwarming, half tragic manor that made the song such a popular song. You can beat that compete against that simple complexity. One Guitar, One Harmonica, One Violin, and Vernon Dalheart Singing. Its a great song every Spelunker should hear. The B Side was alright too.
