Back in the mists of time, aeons ago, I was working in a second hand record shop when this old dude came in with a box of records. He told me the bossman offered him £50 for them. Mr bossman wasn't in that day so I took a look. They were in poor condition. All '60s originals and once upon a time very nice.... but the sleeves were tatty and the vinyl was marked.I couldn't see bossman offering £50 but I offered to ring him up and ask. The guy stood his ground but bossman wasn't in so I made an executive decision. I bought the box for £50.When the boss saw them the next day he went mad "DON'T LISTEN TO THEM" he shouted. It was true he'd often utter this mantra in my early days of working for him. "Don't even believe my mother" he used to say.I offered to buy The Downliners Sect off him. It's not in bad condition although the corners look like they've been nibbled by mice. The vinyl is VG and plays great. I gave him £20 for it. It made us both feel better.Fast forward six months or so and I walk in the shop one day. Mr bossman says "remember those shitty albums you bought for £50 and I gave you a hard time?" How could I forget."Well - we just checked and The Beatles album in there is worth £600 - so well done!". Yup - in that box was The Beatles Hottest Hits on Danish Parlophone with the withdrawn 'eskimo' sleeve.He'd done nothing with those records - just stashed 'em upstairs. There was no internet in those days - but by chance the work experience kiddy had spotted it in a back issue of Record Collector "The Beatles Rarest Sleeve".We sold it to a dealer for £450. That kind of thing happened a lot in those days. Mr bossman refunded my £20 for the Sect LP so we were all happy in the end.TLDR - I got this Downliners Sect free as part of a weird-bad-deal-gone-right in the 90s.

Oh yeah! Sloppy-as-hell, punked-up R&B with enough sneer and fuzz to keep even the most depraved Pretties fan happy.
