The stylized gunfire that kick off Com.a's SHOT OF LOVE soon fall into a twitchy electro groove, punctuated by stabbing samples, whereas "Air Scratch Battle" and “Heart Warming Creatures” are content to stay purely glitchy in their construction of rhythms and manipulations of vocal textures. Com.a is interesting in the way he veers from harsh hip-hop constructions to more jolly tunes. For example, chiptune takes center stage with "Bitches from Outer Space," though it doesn't abandon the altered vocals. A playful sense of melody gives the album a childlike feel, like a kid discovering his first sequencer on "Cherryboy Trail" or the oddly perky "Fear Farms," or the carousel nostalgia of "Am I Wrong?" But he can also get more complex, as on longer "Crime of Mr. Com.A" or push sonic tolerance with the harsher tones and vacillating tempos of "Fickle Grief." “Sick of It!!” seems peppier than its title would suggest, as is the somewhat silly “Make My Day.” An untitled bonus track closes the album out on a foul-mouthed construction that makes the most of its rhythm. A fun diversion over all.
