I will sound as cheesy as it can get, but to understand Global Underground: Black Rock City, you should've gone to Burning Man already. BM and BRC are many many many things at the same time, one of them being a huuuuge Techno cauldron. GU38 delivers very good in representing the impression of a place through music (not a thing you can say about a lot of GU releases).

Ffel

The track selection is fine, for the most part, though there are a few generic ones that manages to slip in. The mixing is also less than stellar, with some transitions merely being fade ins and fade outs, which ruins the mood of some of the tracks. Not the worst release ever, but it could be a lot better.

Dorintrius

CD1 is a great progressive, deep and tech house mix, but CD2 despite having the same music genres it has some tracks with cheap tunes making them sound mediocre and bad quality. Carl Cox is known for being a great House DJ, mixing and producing progressive, tech, minimal and deep house mainly, and his GU 38 debut is a so-so release. CD1 has the trademark of Carl Cox, being a well blended and constructed CD of progressive, tech and deep house, from beginning to end the quality keeps at 4/5. I'm not giving it a full 5/5 rating since in my opinion, Cox could infuse the CD with more top quality tunes, but this CD doesn't disappoint any Cox fan or any progressive tech and deep house lover. Unfortunately CD2 is not at the same 4/5 quality, Carl's musical style is still here but he decided to include some mediocre or even bad tunes, tunes that indeed are progressive, tech, deep house or even minimal house but with an infusion of cheap and bad quality sounds (keyboards, sequencers, etc.). This CD is a 2/5 ratting.It’s a shame that a great CD1 gets diminished with a so-so CD2.
