Even more difficult than finding their music is understanding why it never reached a wider audience or knowing why more tracks never made it to tape. Dig deep enough into late 90's/early 2000's archived shoegaze forums and you'll find references to this band and its music. How it matched the sound Kevin Shields was going for after Loveless. How the guitars bended in just the right way, how the otherworldly synths might have also been guitars, and how, like many similar bands in Japan during this period, seemed to have vanished before they even gained temporality. If more people knew the name Meme Shell, perhaps there would be as many forum posts obsessively dissecting their sound as those demo tracks that got lost in between Loveless and 2013's MBV. The hallmarks of that wavy sound that MBV perfected are all here, but they are not simple reproductions; they are different in some intangible, indefinable way, which is apparent despite the lack of lossless quality for these tracks. Regardless, lossy mp3s of these tracks hide behind download links that have been taken down, the memories of those few who actually have a non-damaged copy of this disc, and the recording machines of these band members who have long since left this music behind.
