For those that want to know there are two cover versions of this release. One with a standard size spine and the other ultra rare 15mm wide spine. On Sound quality this is near to an original version, however EMI have transferred the original sound recording to DMM and lost the true originals, so the sound has varied over the years (lots of companies did this to sound like CDs, oh that craze). However if you set the tracking angle right on your tone arm, you can get close to the original, as the vinyl is thicker etc, but there is never any cigar, until the next release at least:)

Guess I got lucky, clean copy with no sibilance issues and no surface noise of any significance. VPI, Souther Linear Tracker, AT 150MLX. Maybe sounds a little dark sometimes, maybe, but overall I think this is a wonderful pressing and sounds great. The Last AAA edition of this album ever, so you might as well pick up a copy while you can.

I can't compare it to other issues, since I don't own any, but I think there is something a little off with this pressing. A small amount of surface noise and distortion in some places that shouldn't be there (but not that much). But then again, i read online comments from many people who have listened to several versions of this album who say it's one of the best ever, so it might just be me.... I won't bother talking about the music itself. Everybody knows it is undoubtedly one of the best albums ever, a timeless and iconic classic.

Rose Of Winds

It might be that your cart has a hard time tracking the record which gives off the distortions. If I had to recommend another press its probably the new 2016 remasters. They are the best I have heard and track well on any player.

Have to agree-- great mastering crap pressing. Some claim they've got clean copies but I doubt it. The level of surface noise on my copy makes it a waste of time to play. I'm using SOTA Star Sapphire with Linear Arm and Soundsmith Hyperion cart.

Agreed there with the surface noise. My 1974 German pressing is perfect in comparison. This pressing has lots of pops and clicks on first play, but cleaned up nicely. Just crap quality control I guess.

Nothing wrong with mine at all - quiet as a mouse, however I did run it through an audio desk ultrasonic cleaner.

Anybody else experiencing some pretty awful sibilance problems with the 30th anniversary pressing? The "S" sounds on Time and Brain Damage are horrendous, and I have a pretty decent TT to play it (1974 Rega Planar 2). I'm actually thinking of selling my (almost) brand new copy and picking up an older Harvest or EMI copy instead. Thoughts?

I just purchased my copy and am experiencing the same sibilance issues. In fact, to my ears, the entire record sounds pretty bad...hollow and thin on certain tracks. I will most certainly be replacing this version!!! (VPI Classic 2 and Lyra Delos).

Do you mean for david gilmour? Because for Waters, sibilance sounds normal ^_^ Joke apart, my earlier question from june 29 was related to such issue and others..., it was polite way to suspect it was a digital remastering, which is pretty dumb on an analog support and reproduction. So, yes, i guess everyone can throw release in garbage. I don't experience sibilance problem as strong as you, but the overall sounds sampled and have lack of deepness on my installation compared to an old pressing (Thorens TD-160 with SAE 1000-LT MC cartridge)

Yes, I have terrible sibilance on the 30th DSOTM LP. It has the worst sibilance I've ever heard. I have a good system using a Technics SL-1200MK2 with a Denon DL-110 cartridge going into my Audio Research SP-3A-1 tube pre-amp. There is another LP version coming out for the "Why Pink Floyd" series of releases. If there aren't any sibilance problems reported with that version, I may buy it to replace this garbage.
