Notes

A reissue of the original UK and European LP. Considered by many to be hugely inferior to the original version both aurally and physically with blurred artwork and printing. Unlike the original version this release has the title information printed on the cover (not a sticker), doesn't have the message "Don't make me beg, just fuck me" on the back cover and doesn't include any printed inner sleeve or insert, only a simple paper record sleeve. The sound and print quality of this version is so low that some have felt it is a counterfeit.

This edition was made some time after 2008.

"Ode To Clarissa" is the bonus track.

℗ 2000 Interscope Records. © 2000 Interscope Records. The copyright in this sound recording is owned by Interscope Records an licenced exclusively to Polydor Ltd (UK), a Universal Music Company.

In accord with 1manband's comments below, there should be an additional 2014 version of this release, pressed and cut at GZ Vinyl, by their new DMM process (http://www.gzvinyl.com/Manufacturing/Mastering/DMM-cutting.aspx). It explains the quality difference, with this press being the lower quality of the two. The runout on the latter GZ press includes the distinguishing "117401E1/A," instead of "77874E1/A" from this release. It is also distinct from http://www.discogs.com/Queens-Of-The-Stone-Age-X/release/6323619 in several respects. Check this link to sort it out a bit: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/queens-of-the-stone-age-rated-x-2nd-pressing.214283/page-2#post-10793085. It appears GZ weighed in on the discussion on Steve Hoffman with this comment: "Yes, this is a 2014 reissue cut here at GZ Vinyl by our new DMM mastering system. The previous 77874E1,E2 version was cut elsewhere and we only press it."

I agree with those that have pointed out the lack of bass, the quiet drums and the quiet overall volume. The highs are crisp and clear & there is barely any surface noise. Dynamics certainly could be better, but if this is the copy you have, it's not too bad.

Sounds great.. I really don't understand why this is a bad press? record is clean, no background noise .. sounds clear not ehh.dim? record weights over 180g. spins nicely.. sounds very good.. maybe the first records of this press out the oven were bad? is there : 490 864-1 on the spine of the bad one?
Vushura
New.. I think it is the 3rd press of 000 000 - 0 and has the same quality.. sticker is sharp corned..rare find at this point when almost all copies are sold

I just got my copy in the mail from The_Connection on Amazon. Mine has the same matrix numbers, and sounds great. Where did you buy yours? Did you get it new or used?
Mavegelv
Yeah I think the 000 000 - 0 version is the best one available. Awesome find! I just ordered this from Amazon, hopefully it's the one GZ Vinyl cut, otherwise it'll probably be pretty terrible.
Mr_Mole
I am trying to reply to you but.. for some reason this damn reply feature is not working.. I see that I have the 000 000 - 0 version

There's been a new pressing, cut by GZ Vinyl. The same poster says that they were simply pressing them before, but the new pressing was cut at GZ Vinyl using DMM. Here's the post:http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/queens-of-the-stone-age-rated-x-2nd-pressing.214283/page-2#post-10793085What's in the deadwax on your copy?
Wiliniett
Exactly what davelancel said. Very bad. I just received the original and it totally blows this away. Don't waste your money.
Tolrajas
I can confirm this is a very bad release, just try and find the original 2000 pressing and ignore this one
Fegelv
I now have both the original pressing 000 000-0 and the re-issue, I can confirm the original pressing 000 000-0 is so much better than the re-issue, infact don't waste your money on the re-issue its so bad it will frustrate you.
Abandoned Electrical
This is a terrible sounding pressing. No definition on the bass, it's just a vague rumble. The guitars are thin and weak. Apparently, earlier pressings are good, but this one with the sticker printed onto the cover is awful. Just buy the CD.

In my opinion, this copy (the one with the sticker printed onto the sleeve) suffers from not being a double LP. My copy is not a bad pressing at all but surely could have a richer and more detailed sound in some passages. The more music you want to press on one side of a record, the less space is available for cutting the grooves. Especially higher "loudness" and bass levels require more space. The bassy Queens Of The Stone Age sound just won't really fit on one single record, I think. It's like a corset for the rhythm section. But in my opinion, it's just a problem with the lower frequencies. When you listen to the cymbals in the middle of "I Think I Lost My Headache" they appear in all their crispy clearness.I didn't compare this version to one of the other pressings, but until it's not available as double vinyl, I'm not buying another one. I'm pretty satisfied with it and still prefer it to my CD, but if you own a rather noisy record player, you could be really gutted about the sound due to the necessary level of volume.

is this copy any good.. the one with the sticker printed onto the sleeve.. i am a little confused as to which is the bunk copies?.. thanks!

I brought the second UK pressing, but ended up turning it back to the Record store. The pressing sounds awful and is a disgrace to the album which I think is QOTSAs best and one that I never grow tired of! The mastering is very low - I had to turn the volume on my stereo up to the double of other records to get the same output, which means that noise/signal ratio becomes really bad. Despite the low mastering-level there is very little dynamics. Furthermore, the bottom end is boomy and there is bad separation/definition of the instruments. Such a pity!Do anyone know if the 1st pressing is better? Or maybe the US-version? Or if it was originally pressed as a vinyl in the blue 'Rated-R' version? - I don't really care for the added bonus track. I completely obstructs the 'story' of the album. I would really love to have this album on vinyl, but it should sound better than a crappy mp3! Thanks!
Sinredeemer
A litte late to this thread, but was the copy you returned the one that says "don't make me bet just fuck me" on the back?
Vivaral
I agree this is a not a good pressing. Thin, quiet... Disappointing for the $$
Beahelm
I also agree. Compressed sound low volume recording I should have looked here before I bought it! But... you can still hear it okay
Realistic
I don't have any problem with the sound quality of this pressing whatsoever. Maybe its just my stereo, but I think this is one of the best sounding records I have. Totally dynamic range.
Kendis
This pressing is to be avoided total crap sound... Flat as a pancake .. Really no separation in the instruments .. Absolutely no bottom end!!!! Where are the Drums? :(
Mozel
I love this album to death. But this version just seemed to have a very bad sound quality... Plus it cost me 27$ and I work in a record store!
