Mastering is so flat. I was playing some old crap before it and it had so much more dimension.

I am shocked how good this sounds, all factors considered. ZERO inner groove distortion issues on “Redbone”; my setup tracks well in the first place but it sounding perfectly pristine still shows this was cut well. Some occasional noise but nothing worth complaining about

I also own the box set version of this album, but picked up the single disc version today, so I wouldn't have to hassle with the box set.I was disappointed to see so many people say it sounded bad, I am on side B as I type this and haven't noticed any noise or anything. Maybe some people are just too picky or I got lucky. Either way, I am pleased with the sound of this pressing.

I bought my boxset from a local record store still in the original unopened packaging. When I opened it there was no booklet. I am so disappointed. The vinyl seem to be in good condition.

Pretty quiet pressing (had to turn the volume up like a third more than I usually have it at) and really tight centre hole (had to widen it lightly with a knife) but besides that pretty average pressing. Very minor surface noise compared to what everyone else seems to have.EDIT: Surface noise is definitely clear in the right channel on the track "Redbone". Even though that's the main single, they still decided to cram it in as the last song on one side. Kinda sad.

My version sounds fine; none of the formely mentioned surface noise is on my copy for whatever reason. It is mastered a tad low but other than that it's flawless. Luck of the draw?

I've owned this for quite a bit and just writing a review now. The surface noise for this pressing is unbearable lmao. I've cleaned it multiple times and it hasn't helped at all, buy this if you just really want to own it physically, otherwise you're better off listening to this digitally.

If you have the Pharos app on Android, I advise you to back it up however you can. I just now noticed that my version of the app seems to be no longer available from the Play Store, the one with com.threeamteam.constellation as id.The one that's still up now, with id com.proverse.pharosearth, doesn't appear to be compatible with some devices that the other version did support (in my case, LG G4)So if you have the former, better hold on to it, because I don't think it can be re-installed.

Concur with all the scuttlebutt: this pressing is ripe garbage. . . . like it's pressed into potato skins, middlings, and dry milk powder. It's really sad.

I thought I'd ignore the negative hype and try my luck anyway since Amazon had this version for really cheap. Big mistake. This pressing sounds like a bowl of rice crispies. Absolutely horrible. DO NOT BUY IT. I would honestly rather just bite the bullet and get the $60 box set with all the extra crap I don't want. This one is almost more surface noise than music. For the price, I could almost forgive it if the noise floor wasn't so damn low, but I have to really crank my system to hear the music, which only makes the surface noise louder. I will be returning my copy.

Ordered the Pre-Released box, it came months late and completely warped. I am now going back and forth with customer service. Instead of replacing it or giving a refund, they are explaining to me how records work ("When you change the rpm speed of the record, that will naturally affect the octave in playback").

Just picked this up (new and sealed) from a local record store and when I opened it up, there was no A/B vinyl. Instead it has 2x C/D. Has anyone heard of this?

that happened to me w/Radiohead OK Computer. Twice. 1st time just swapped it at the record store, 2nd just emailed customer service and the shipped me the missing vinyl.

Crap pressing!!! Super low audio, even lower level than my old 80s hip hop LP’s! Super disappointing!

Agree-- poor quality pressing in every regard. Mastered at a very low level in order to cram too much material on each side. Cheap jacket, and very crappy innersleeve-- made of a material that will scratch and gouge the record upon each removal and reinsertion. I did a professional level cleaning of the LP before playing, and replaced the innersleeve. Excessive surface noise throughout both sides. The stampers were dirty and the LP had visible pressing defects on both sides. Audio quality was poor, compressed, and dull sounding. My verdict: A true POS pressing! The artist and the music were done a serious disservice with this release.

my copy sounds really great. one problem that i have is my needle is ortofon pro S and the vinyl sounds low. Anyone can help me about it? My turntable is Philips GA 312. Who is the better needle for Funk, Jazz, Hip Hop, Soul music?

To fit it on 1 LP instead of the 2LP's it was originally mastered for, the engineer had to sacrifice volume or bass. In this case they sacrificed volume to save that space for the bass. You just need to turn it up.I think it sounds great and I'm really happy I don't have to fork over $40 for it.

This pressing is really quiet. I dont think another needle will make much of a difference. Just crank up the volume.

Fantastic album, but my pressing sounds pretty terrible. A lot of surface noise, especially on side A; coupled with the fact that it just sounds flat and quite lifeless compared to the digital album. Pretty disappointed.

I'm having the same issue with b-side, especially on b-4 which is the most quiet song on album. Side A played well without any noise. Will return my copy and hope to receive a better copy.

Mine is quiet, and visually consistent.Surprising for a United pressing.My box set version is actually inferior.

This pressing is done by MPO in France - not United. If it were United, it would be noisy and crap.

My pressing sounds fantastic! Quiet, but once you crank it, it sounds great. No surface noise on mine either.

My copy sounds great. It is notably very quiet; have to really crank the volume to get it up to range, but once it's there the sound is actually very balanced. I don't have any surface noise as noted by the first reviewer. Pretty happy with this for $14, compared to the $60 box debacle.

I noticed the same thing on my copy, I'm happy with it, because quite frankly the $60 is too much to pay for the other one.

Yes, no surface noise on my copy and as you said you have to crank up the volume up a notch. Bought from Target of all places for $14~. I have never heard the 45rpm version so I can't compare quality.

Slight warp. Extremely quiet. Perhaps the most quiet piece of wax I own. Is this a bootleg? "mcDJ" certainly does not instill confidence.
